Stamps

I’ve been squatting on my apartment’s lease renewal for about 3 months now because I don’t have any stamps to mail it with. Today I had a $70 rebate to shove in the mail as well. So, I went down to the post office and went to the counter. I told the guy that I wanted to send these two envelopes in the mail, so he stuck them on his little scale and all that jazz. And then he asks me, “would you like any stamps?” I replied, “no, I can never use them all before you change the price.”

Last year, I needed to mail my taxes on April 15th and I tried to use the automated stamp machine to my chagrin. All I wanted was two stamps (one for my federal taxes and one for my state taxes), but the machine wouldn’t let that through. My first envelope’s stamp wasn’t enough to meet the minimum requirements for the machine, so the machine asks me if I want to add some stamps to the order to meet the requirement, so I say, “no.” It cancels the whole thing. So, I got back through the whole thing, and this time I say “yes” even though I know that I am going to mail another envelope (the combined price of which meets the minimum). In the end, I am stuck with a stamp that I have no use for. I still have that stamp, in its $0.39 glory (see my comment above).

And if you guessed that the $70 rebate was on a scanner, then you are the big prize winner..

Luckily there are the “forever” stamps now - you buy the book of them and no matter how much or when they raise prices those stamps will always be good. You should look into it. Its almost like an investment…

You are exactly correct. You may want to purchase the forever stamps now as the postal rate is gong up this summer. They may be hard to find the closer we get to the increase. Your birthday is coming up soon so I may get you a gift that will keep on giving! Hope you are feeling better.
