Pending Disaster

Due to a series of events that are better described over at RegisterFlies, this page is not likely to remain available in the near future. Due to issues with RegisterFly, I have lost control over my account. What this means is that at some point in the future, I will be unable to update my domain to point to the correct server and scottdial.com/scottdial.org will become defunct.

I have attempted to transfer my domain’s to another registrar (GoDaddy), however they are powerless to force the transfer. The domain transfer system is so broken as to require the losing compnay to agree to let go of the domain. RegisterFly obviously has no incentive to do so. Attempts to complain to the authoritative body (ICANN) are worthless as they are merely forwarded to the registrar of record (RegisterFly). The picture I am painting is that there is no recourse for the consumer.

Not sure what else I can do, I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission:

The company RegisterFly.com, Inc. is an ICANN accredited domain registrar. I currently own the following domains through the RegisertFly.com, Inc. registrar:

scottdial.com
scottdial.org

After RegisterFly.com, Inc. commited several fraudulent purchases against my credit card, I file a dispute with my credit card provider. In response to this action, I was automatically locked out of my RegisterFly.com, Inc. account. The message given on screen (”chargeback $xx.xx , chargeback fee $xxx, acct activation fee $xx”) suggests that they wish to extort me for $xxx.xx. However, they do not respond to any requests to have this problem corrected.

In response to the previous issue, I elected to transfer my domains from the RegisterFly.com, Inc. registrar to the GoDaddy.com, Inc. registrar. However, these two domains are currently being held hostage under the terms of the ICANN registrar agreement. As stated before, they have ignored all attempts to contact them. I have contacted ICANN about the problem, and ICANN has also been unable to reach them on my behalf.

ICANN’s position on the matter is that they can do nothing. I would also like to amend this complaint to include the ICANN organization. I believe they have violated public trust and have failed to do their duty to “to ensure the stable and secure operation of the Internet’s unique identifier systems” (http://www.icann.org/general/bylaws.htm, 1.1).

As well as filing that complaint, I have filed complaints with Florida’s Attorney General office and New Jersey’s Attorney General office. I’m not sure what else I can do, but cry quitely in a corner as I lose control over my namesake domain.. *sniffle*
