College 2.0

Everything is 2.0 these days..

I have adjusted to my new life, so far. In some ways, nothings has really changed; most of the changes are subtle. If I compared the first month here to the last month of college, it is really just a matter of scale. At Rose, I was taking 4 courses, meeting 4 times a week, and then teaching assisting usually 2 sections, in total about 40 people. Compare that to, I am now taking 3 courses, meeting twice a week, and then instructing 2 sections, in total about 50 people.

The first response I get from folks is, “you are only taking 3 courses twice a week?!” Yes, only 3 courses but I easily spend more time outside of class working on assignments than when I was taking 16 hours of class at Rose.. I am much happier only having to be in class 6 hours of the week.. that’s 10 hours that I can actually work on the assignments instead of dozing off in class (not that I am still keeping that option open).

Ok, so the second question I get is, “what are you teaching?” I am teaching the lab section of the “Intro to Computing” course. The course is huge, there are about 700 students in this course.. I deal with about 50 of them. My job is basically to show them how a computer can be a tool they can use in whatever career their pursuing. So far, we have made a web page and now are working with spreadsheets. Super-awesome fun-time.

Another common question is about my living situation. As I have posted before, I got a one-bedroom apartment in Bloomington that has an annoying bus route. At some point, I will try to take pictures, but for now, you will just have to come see for yourself. On occassion, my webcam is running to watch over my apartment, that’s probably your best chance until I get more motivated to find my camera. (And no, I don’t want to take photos with the webcam, they are not of a quality worth bothering with.)

I think that covers it for a while.. sports racer, out.

Glad to hear you aren’t sleeping in class for a change. Now you will know for sure if you want to teach when you finish school. Unlike high school, these kids have paid money to be in your class. Hopefully they don’t annoy you too much. I’m sure Deb is happy that you are no longer living in a ant infested room. See you soon.

Correction: it should read “an ant infested”. I do know my proper English.

Sounds like a class they should of had in high school. :-)

The best naps I ever had were during classes which bored me. Too bad they ALL put me to sleep. Hence, my present lot in life. Trish, does it make you feel better that he is no longer living with pests, rodents, and deer? The exchange being having to walk twenty miles a day on blistered feet to pursue his education? The least you could do is buy him some of those roller skate tennis shoes!!!!!! I’m glad you found the error on your first post, Pat. As for our Indy Star superstar, it should read, “should HAVE had.” He has become very lax with his website lately. as well. He’s probably too busy singing karaoke in his Aussie accent. Crikey!
